Plaster Statue of Saint Barbara

**Dimensions** Length: 13 cm Width: 10,5 cm Height: 40 cm This is the plaster statue in colour of Saint Barbara holding a mine lamp in her right hand and a tower on her left. Saint Barbara is the patron saint of miners. According to the legend, Barbara's father Dioscorus imprisoned Barbara in a tower as a punishment for her conversion to Christianity. But a lightning bolt split the walls of the tower and Barbara could escape. However, she was caught and sentenced to death. Father Dioscorus personally executed her death sentence with a sword, but he was punished immediately: he was struck by a lightning bolt and turned to ashes on the spot. Since the 17th century, Saint Barbara has been the patroness of people who have to deal with explosives.
