Joireman High Court

This data set consists of archival records collected from the Shoa High Court in Ethiopian in order to better understand the country's tenure system as well as the "position and intentions of the Ethiopian imperial government" (Joireman 2000, 11). "This data set is problematic, however, as by 1967 the jurisdiction of the court had changed from being a court of appeal for the country as a whole to a court of appeal for Shoa alone. Thus the data are not consistent across time. However, for most of the cases we have a complete summary of the dispute, which is a valuable record" (Joireman 2000, 15).
