Equivalent noise level (day) for roads and streets 2022

The noise data has been compiled from studies commissioned by the Finnish Transport Infrastructure Agency and from data commissioned by municipalities with a duty to report. The regions and municipalities in Finland that are required to report are the Helsinki Metropolitan Area (Helsinki, Espoo, Vantaa and Kauniainen), as well as Turku, Tampere, Lahti and Oulu. The reports shall be drawn up for roads with an annual traffic of at least 3 million vehicles and for railways with an annual traffic of at least 30000 trains. In addition, noise areas in the street network of municipalities subject to an investigation obligation are included in the data, as well as other roads in relation to the road network. The National Land Survey of Finland’s laser scanning data have been used in road and rail noise surveys commissioned by the Finnish Transport Infrastructure Agency. With regard to municipalities, most of them have been used by municipal spatial datasets and possibly by the National Land Survey of Finland. Noise calculation is based on the spread of noise in the 3D terrain model, which has modelled noise sources, buildings, noise barriers and terrain forms and their acoustic properties. Noise emissions from traffic noise sources are determined on the basis of traffic volumes, driving speeds and repair terms. The correction terms specify the baseline values in situations where the assumption of the starting value is not correct (e.g. special road pavement, traffic light crossing, abnormal effect of rail or rail condition, or bridge). The studies are based on the EU Environmental Directive (2002/49/EC) and the Environmental Protection Act (527/2014), which require cities with more than 100000 inhabitants to draw up a noise survey and noise abatement action plan every five years.
