Dykes road village
收藏资源简介:
Dijk and road villages occur throughout Zeeland and are not like the ring village and the forestreet village mainly related to the old or new country. Dyke villages, as the name suggests, originated along dikes and road villages along (a crossing of) roads. Dike villages are usually more or less spontaneous and show an extremely simple linear map. The villages are usually built along the inside of a sea dike (sometimes a canal or polderdijk). After the construction of a new polder, expansion of the village was possible on the outside of the old sea dike, which no longer had a water-tighting function. A center often lacks in a dike village and a church only came when the number of inhabitants was large enough. Wegdorpen (also known as street villages) are often created just like the dike villages without a plan as ribbon construction along a polder road or a split of polder roads. The cross road village is a subtype that often originated in the larger polders from the 17th century. A crossing of two or more polder roads was chosen as the starting point for the settlement., The plan of a cross road village consists mostly of a square square where in one corner the church was built in another corner the parishion opposite the town hall and in the remaining corner the village café. Sometimes the square is missing and the central center is formed by the cross of two roads or passages or a combination of both. The rest of the buildings rose along one of the axles at the junction. Borssele is the most striking example of a cross road village that has been laid out according to geometric design.
