RNA sequencing reveals dynamic expression of mRNAs related to innate immune responses in canine intestinal epithelial cells induced by Echinococcus granulosus protoscoleces

Dogs serve as the definitive hosts for Echinococcus granulosus, with the small intestine being the main site of parasitic infection. Despite this, there is a lack of comprehensive knowledge regarding the immunomodulatory processes that occur during the interaction between E. granulosus and its definitive host. In this study, we examined the messenger RNA (mRNA) expression patterns of canine intestinal epithelial cells (CIECs) following stimulation by E. granulosus protoscoleces (PSCs), focusing on the roles of pattern recognition receptors (PRRs) in mediating the host innate immune response to the tapeworm E. granulosus.
