Empty cells indicate a lack of detectable target DNA in each sample. Values marked by “*” indicate only a single positive value was detected among the sampled cultures in that group. A portion of each undiluted inocula (inoc) of roughly equivalent volume was quantified in parallel to the bacterial levels present 48 h after colonization of the matured VEC multilayers.
