Australian Commercial Film Industry Collection

A collection of Australian commercial film industry materials. The commercial film industry in Australia includes the main areas of film production, film exhibition, and film distribution. Within these areas there are a number of commercial operators whose actions have been well documented and it is these items that we have collected at the AFI Research Collection. These include annual reports, clippings files, and book chapters and references. Some of the major commercial outfits in Australia featured in this collection include Village Roadshow, Hoyts, Greater Union/Birch Carroll Coyle, and Palace. There are materials held in this collection pertaining to the Australian arms of overseas companies (for example: Sony, Universal, Disney) as well as materials that mention Australia's commercial film industry and how they work with and within government organisations and policies.
