Salinisation in the near-surface water conductor of the marshes and lowlands

Groundwater salinisation affects the nature of the near-surface water conductors in large areas of the west coast of Schleswig-Holstein. This is due to natural processes, in particular the landward penetration of sea water and the rise of salty deep water as a result of hydraulic pressure relief. The map shows the predominantly salted areas (red) and the predominantly non-salted areas (blue) in the marches and lowlands of the west coast.
