Short Read Raw genomic data set of DNA amplified from sediment cores on St. Paul Island, Alaska.

Raw data from the shotgun sequencing of Illumina-compatible DNA libraries derived from samples of three adjacent and overlapping lake sediment cores. These cores were taken from Lake Hill lake, St. Paul Island, Alaska in March 2013. The composite of these cores extends temporally from the late Pleistocene to the recent. This time range includes the occasion of woolly mammoth extinction on the island. Within this data set, which should comprise an indiscriminate sampling of the DNA present in the sampled lake sediment layers, the chronology of presence followed by absence of putative mammoth-derived DNA has been used to determine the timing of mammoth extinction on St. Paul.
