Major, volatile, and trace elements, and Fe speciation, of glass samples from SWIR 48-51°E

The basaltic glass samples were collected along the axis of the SWIR during the R/V Dayangyihao cruises DY125-30 and DY125-34 via TV grab. Most of the retrieved samples do not contain glass, but nine basalt samples contain glassy quenched rims (<5 vol% plagioclase phenocrysts) and these are the subjects of our study. From each of the nine glassy lavas, we selected at least three glass chips for analysis. Each chip was analyzed for major elements plus S and Cl by Electron probe micro-analyzer (EPMA), for dissolved H2O and CO2 by Fourier-transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR), for trace elements by laser ablation-inductively coupled plasma-mass spectrometry (LA-ICP-MS), and for Fe3+/∑Fe ratios by X-ray absorption near edge structure (XANES) spectroscopy.
