VPRS 10320 Outwards Letter Book, Dredging Works

The Public Works Department (VA 669) had wide-ranging responsibilities for all public works and buildings, including construction, maintenance and fitting out of these buildings. Other major responsibilities included roads and bridges, ports and harbours, local government and water supply.For some considerable time the Public Works Department had responsibility for dredging works for ports and harbours as well as for inland waterways such as the Murray and Goulbourn Rivers. This series consists of letter-press copies of the outwards correspondence of the Engineer responsible for the supervision of dredging works. Correspondence includes estimates and reports of expenditure and the status of works and equipment to the Inspector-General of Works, correspondence regarding deliveries, supplies and personnel matters and that related to the fulfilment of contracts and with dealing with payments and accounts.
