We aimed to characterize experience-induced gene expression in lateralization and to assess the sensitivity of the left and right CA1 regions of the rat hippocampus to an enriched environment. RNA sequencing was performed on the left and right CA1 region tissues dissected from the rats, which lived in isolated or enriched conditions. Transcriptomic analysis was used to characterize the gene expression profiles of the left and right CA1 regions and to determine the effects of different environmental conditions. Hippocampal CA1 lateralization was observed at the gene expression level in both housing conditions. Overall design: To investigate the left-right asymmetry of the rat hippocampal CA1 region at the level of gene expression exposed by environmental enrichment, we performed RNA-seq using both sides of hippocampal CA1 tissues, which were dissected from the rats lived in isolated or enriched conditions.
