This potato rot nematode can enter tubers through lenticels, and then digest starch and pectin leading to cell disintegration. It can also cause additional damage during storage. It is the second ranking nematode pests of potato after the potato cyst nematode, and an internationally quarantined pest. The D. destructor Dd01 was isolated from sweet potato in Wuhan city, China.
