Dataset for Lab Protocol Study: "The Mind & Muscles: Introducing a validated EEG/EMG protocol for recording cognitive-muscular interactions in experimental archaeology"

This dataset was used in the validation study of a novel open-access protocol introduced by the authors (Eteson et al. 2025: dx.doi.org/10.17504/protocols.io.36wgqnxbygk5/v1) for exploring dynamic brain-muscle interactions during prehistoric stone tool use in the context of experimental archaeology and neuroarchaeology, and relying on the combined application of electromyography (EEG) and electroencephalography (EMG). The dataset corresponds to the recordings used for the statistical analyses of the validation paper, which represent percentage maximum voluntary contraction values (%MVC) for each muscle per anonymized participant. This data was also used for aspects of previous research (e.g., Eteson et al., 2024 https://onlinelibrary.wiley.com/doi/10.1002/ajpa.25019). As explained in previous research, the experiments of this study have received approval  by the Ethics Committee for Psychological Research of the University of Tübingen, in line with the international recommendations of the Declaration of Helsinki (1964, revised in 2013).
