Success and Challenges Among Overseas Filipino Workers: A Secondary Data Analysis of Socioeconomic and Welfare Outcomes

This study analyzes the socioeconomic and welfare outcomes of Overseas Filipino Workers (OFWs) using secondary data from the Philippine Statistics Authority (PSA) and reports from the Department of Migrant Workers (DMW) and related agencies. Trends in deployment, remittances, gender distribution, and welfare indicators from 2020 to 2025 were examined. Findings reveal a rising number of OFWs and increasing remittances, alongside persistent challenges such as reintegration gaps and vulnerabilities in specific regions. The results provide actionable insights for enhancing OFW protection, welfare policies, and support systems. Data sources: PSA estimates of 2.16 million OFWs (2023) and 2.19 million OFWs (2024) were utilized.
