Danish Election Study 1994 contains data collected by the Danish Gallup Institute in October, November and December 1994. # #The following background information is included in the data material: #The respondent's sex, age and marital status; size of the household and number of adults (13 years or more) and children in the household, and age of the children; the respondent's position in the household; the respondent's education, occupational status and income as well as private or public employment; total income of the household; occupational status of the housewife; and type of dwelling and ownership of the dwelling. # #In addition, the following issues are included: #The most important problems for the politicians to solve; interest in the election campaign in the mass media; participation in political discussions prior to the election; general interest in politics; vote at the general election on 21 September, 1994; time of decision; whether the respondent considered voting for another party; the importance of a number of issues in the election campaign for the choice of party; economic considerations in connection with the choice of party; the importance of possible government coalitions after the election for the choice of party; vote at the general election in 1990; degree of party affiliation; assessment of the individual political parties, the party leaders, and the policy the parties have pursued for the last couple of years; assessment of the Government's performance; whether the country's problems can best be solved by a non-Socialist or a Social Democratic government; the country's economy and the family's standard of living compared with last year; the effects of the Government's policy on the respondent's own financial situation, on the country's economy and on unemployment; the effects of the tax reform on the respondent's financial circumstances; reasons for the economic upswing and the rise in interest rates; attitude to the national debt and the budget deficit; the problems concerning overcrowded hospitals and waiting lists; attitude to the criticism raised against the quality of the education in primary school; political questions such as: social benefits, standard of living and income, state control of trade and industry, the position of banks and large-scale industry, Denmark's role in international conflicts, economic growth and combatting of unemployment, possibilities of promoting trade and industry, minimum wage and unemployment, combatting of unemployment, distribution of wage increases at the individual places of work, flexible working hours, more user payment in the public sector, and public services; important goals for society; the distribution of tasks between state and municipalities; attitude to public expenses in a number of fields; attitude to labour market schemes such as early retirement pay, leave arrangements, etc.; attitude to the new tax reform and the future tax policy; priority ordering in connection with possible tax reliefs; attitude to sexual equality; attitude to a number of proposals as to how to combat unemployment; attitude to the invitation of tender for public works; attitude to the wage policy in the public sector; assessment of the productivity in the public and the private sector, respectively; attitude to a Sound bridge; attitude to the Home Service schemes; attitude to a number of views from the political debate; general attitude to politics and politicians; assessment of how democracy functions in Denmark; views on which policy should be pursued in the European Union; general attitude to the EU; whether the respondent voted at the European Parliamentary Elections in June 1994; whether the respondent voted at the Union referendum in 1993; placing of the parties on a political left-right scale; assessment of the policy of the various parties concerning refugees, environmental issues, control of the market forces and economic policy; membership of a trade union; affiliation to a particular social class; purchase of a car in 1993 or 1994; use of the new leave arrangements; re-mortgaging of housing loans; use of public subsidies to housing renovation; use of public child-minding facilities; whether the respondent has a pension scheme; whether the respondent has a number of fringe benefits; and transport to work
