The Kyoto Protocol entered into force on 16 February 2005. This Protocol provides for a reduction of the European Union’s greenhouse gas emissions by 8 %. Austria has a reduction target of 13 percent due to EU-internal regulations. The Kyoto target refers to the average of the years 2008-2012 compared to the Kyoto base year 1990.
