Sugar futures eased further to below 16 cents per pound, reaching the lowest level since early July, amid selling fund pressure and expectations of ample supply. The market focus remains on supply developments, with Brazil’s Center-South harvest nearing its end and production in India and Thailand about to begin. According to Unica, in the first half of August, sugar production in the Center-South region increased 16% year-over-year, totaling 3.615 million tons, and the proportion of sugarcane used for sugar production rose from 49.15% to 55%. Meanwhile, dealers said the outlook for cane crops in India and Thailand remained favorable after good rains this year. According to the International Sugar Organization (ISO), the global sugar deficit is set to shrink in 2025/26 to just 231,000 metric tons, down from 4.88 million this season, as output surges. Still, it would represent the sixth consecutive year of deficits.
