<div>This layer represents the geographic boundary of Maine, United States, and is used to spatially anchor conservation content related to the Arctic Charr (Salvelinus alpinus aquassa), a rare and genetically distinct cold water fish species. Arctic Charr in Maine are the only endemic populations remaining in the contiguous United States. These populations are considered relics of the last glacial period and are uniquely adapted to the state’s deep, cold-water lakes.</div><div><br /></div><div>This feature layer provides spatial context within the StoryMap, helping to communicate the significance of Maine’s conservation work and its contribution to preserving a species of high ecological and historical value.</div>
