Transcriptome analysis of leaf or root samples in chitin-treated rice

Chitin is a polymer composed of N-acetylglucosamine, and chitin oligosaccharides have been used as chitin in experiments. Additionally, chitin is a component of fungal cell walls and induces pattern-triggered immunity in plants. In this study, to understand nanofibrillated chitin polymer, named chitin nanofiber, we performed RNA-seq analysis in chitin-treated rice. Samples were prepared from leaves and roots of Wild-type, oscerk1, or cebip knockout mutants in Oryza sativa ssp. japonica cv. Nipponbare. Rice was grown for 3 weeks and treated 0.01 (w/v)% of chitin oligosaccharides or chitin nanofiber in soil (3 plants/tube in triplicate). Compared long-chain polymer to short-chain oligomer of chitin, we aim to delineate the systemically induced disease resistance in chitin-treated rice.
