Near-Death Experience Phenomenology in Ketamine and Psychedelic Research: A Curated Literature Dataset

This dataset is a curated, annotated bibliography of peer-reviewed and gray literature examining death and near-death experience (NDE) phenomenology in the context of ketamine and classic/serotonergic psychedelics (psilocybin, DMT, 5-MeO-DMT, ayahuasca, LSD, salvia divinorum). It contains 79 entries spanning 1972–2026, compiled and cross-verified against PubMed and Crossref records across multiple research passes. Each entry is coded across 23 fields, including author(s), year, title, journal/source, DOI, publication type, study design, era bucket, substance(s), dose/route/setting, comparator/control, sample size, population type, instruments used, key findings, phenomenological themes, whether the study makes an explicit NDE comparison, whether it is a pivotal paper in this literature, a quality/risk-of-bias note, open-access status, and follow-up notes.
