The potential soil map per parcel (2015) shows the total potential erosion of a given agricultural parcel by classification. The total potential erosion does not take into account current land use (grassland or cropland) and is the sum of processing erosion and water erosion. The single application erosion sensitivity field contains the information corresponding to the erosion sensitivity of the single application 2015. The objections submitted and approved by 1 October were reflected in the 2015 erosion map. The later and less priority objections (e.g. objection to medium classification (orange) or low (yellow), which are not subject to obligations) were only partially addressed. An update of the 2015 erosion map will follow in the course of 2015. Erosion by water is a process in which soil particles are separated and transported by raindrops and run-off water, either low over a large surface area or concentrated in poles and rays. This leads, among other things, to a decrease in soil quality and productivity, but also to significant damage caused by mud nuisance in downstream (residential) areas. It may be argued that erosion is one of the most important forms of soil degradation in Flanders. The potential soil map per plot is based on the percel map 2014. As the 2014 percel map does not cover the whole of Flanders, part of the agricultural use data was derived from a classified satellite image of OCGIS Flanders. However, this picture contains only land use information and no parcel information, which will obviously result in a much lower quality of calculations for this area. The potential soil map per plot was prepared through computer modelling with a spatial resolution of 5 m (Physical and Regional Geography Research Group, Department of Earth and Environment Sciences, K.U.Leuven). The calculation of water erosion is based on the revised universal soil loss equation or R.U.S.L.E. (Revised Soil Loss Equation, Renard et al, 1991). It is an empirical model that calculates the average annual soil erosion rate per unit of area due to intergeulsion and geulsion as a product of 6 factors: The processing erosion was calculated using Software based on the watersedem model.
