In this study, we investigated whether trees planted in association with other tree species showed a higher resistance to disease associated with a higher mycobiome diversity. To test this hypothesis, we analyzed the diversity and composition of fungal communities collected on leaves of pedunculate oak and needles of maritime pine in 48 experimental forest plots. These plots, located in the ORPHEE experimental site (INRAe, Cestas, France), were planted in monoculture or in mixtures of 2 to 5 tree species. Fungal communities were charcaterized using a metabarcoding approach targeting the fungal ITS1 region with ITS1F-ITS2 primers.
