Coral-associated bacteria in an urbanized marine habitat

The coral holobiont harbors a diverse community of bacteria, but little is known about the biogeographic patterns in these communities. Here, we show in an urbanized coral reef ecosystem (Singapore), that bacterial communities associated with coral can diverge sharply due to small-scale environmental factors such as prevailing wind direction, even over small (<1 km) distances.
