Attached microbial communities in sulfide-rich terrestrial springs and ponds in the Middle Volga region, European Russia

A number of cold, sulfide-containing artesian springs, both natural and artificial, are known in the Middle Volga region. Sulfide concentration in some of them reaches several mM. Microbial communities in terrestrial cold freshwater/oligohaline springs with high sulfide content are not well documented in the current literature. The aim of this project is to investigate the microbial diversity of various attached microbial communities, i.e. (cyano)bacterial mats, streamers and biofouling.
