If a competitor's product has elastic demand, the enterprise can lower prices to attract customers; if the competitor's product has inelastic demand, the enterprise can improve product quality and service to seize market share.

This dataset collects the sales volume and unit price of equestrian helmets from Yuanjing Sports over the past two years, and analyzes the Price Elasticity of Demand (PED) to assess the sensitivity of unit price changes to sales volume changes.
The calculation formulas are as follows:
Sales volume change = |(previous period sales volume - same period sales volume) / previous period sales volume|
Average unit price change = |(previous period average unit price - same period average unit price) / previous period average unit price|;
Price elasticity = Sales volume change / Average unit price change;
Using the absolute value of PED, product demand can be categorized into different elasticity tiers:
(1) Perfectly inelastic demand: |PED| = 0, demand remains unchanged regardless of price adjustments, and enterprises can raise prices without risking a sales decline.
(2) Inelastic demand: 0 < |PED| < 1, raising prices may increase total revenue as the change in demand is relatively minor; appropriate price hikes can be considered to boost profits.
(3) Unit elastic demand: |PED| = 1, the percentage change in price is identical to the percentage change in demand, and total revenue will not shift with price changes; enterprises can maintain the current price, or increase revenue via other means such as improving product quality or launching marketing campaigns.
(4) Relatively elastic demand: 1 < |PED| ≤ 10, lowering prices can significantly increase sales volume and thus total revenue; raising prices will sharply reduce sales volume and lead to a drop in total revenue, so price adjustments should be made with great caution.
(5) Perfectly elastic demand: |PED| > 10, tiny price changes will trigger significant shifts in demand, so price adjustments must be handled extremely carefully to avoid losing a large customer base.
