16S and seven functional genes (cbbL-R, amoA, tfda, bpha, nosZ, SDIMO, apsA) were amplified from bioswale, tree pit, and park lawn soils in the Bronx, NY, from both DNA and RNA for each sample. The goal was to answer whether engineered green infrastructure soils (i.e. right-of-way and streetside bioswales) have distinct bacterial communities and functional gene profiles compared to other urban soils.
