Assessment of the immunomodulatory effects induced by probiotic strains (as an alternative to antibiotics) on the regulatory mechanisms of inflammation and tolerance in birds. The main objective of this project is to induce a robust homeostatic status in the chicken GIT promoting the tolerance (preventing inflammation) and to increase the luminal defense capacity against pathogens through the administration of probiotic strains, specifically selected for their immunomodulatory and antimicrobial capacity, in order to investigate if similar modes of action as AGPs are possible.The in vivo trial were done upon 12 fast-growing broiler chickens from which cecum and jejunum transcriptomics and microbiota from ileum and cecum.
