The present invention provides a method for increasing strength of paper-based separator for supercapacitors by a dual system of nanocellulose and cationic polymer， comprising the steps of: (1) preparation of slurry of pulp fibers and adjustment of the pulp concentration; (2) addition of cationic polymer into the pulp slurry and make sure they are well mixed; (3) addition of nanocellulose into the pulp slurry and make sure they are well mixed; (4) manufacturing of paper-based separator for supercapacitors with the above treated pulp.
