Direct GHG emission factors from energy sources on Québec’s import and export markets

Description

Hydro-Québec dataset on direct greenhouse gas (GHG) emission factors from energy sources in Québec’s import and export markets. Updated annually.

Method

Data from public sources external to the company are extracted and compiled. Direct greenhouse gas emission factors are presented for each energy source in an external market from which Québec may import energy or to which it may export energy.

Power plants supplied by renewable energy sources do not produce direct GHG emissions.

Sources of GHG emissions from power plants supplied by fossil fuels :

Ontario : values calculated retroactively based on the following Independent Electricity System Operator (IESO) sites :

New York State, New England, MISO and PJM :

GHG emission values from electricity generation in New York State, New England, and by the MISO and PJM organizations are calculated from power plant GHG emissions published in the EPA’s eGRID database (https://www.epa.gov/egrid). GHG emission values from electricity generation in New Brunswick and Ontario come respectively from the federal government (https://www.cer-rec.gc.ca/fr/donnees-analyse/marches-energetiques/profils-energetiques-provinces-territoires/profils-energetiques-provinces-territoires-nouveau-brunswick.html) and the IESO. All of these values differ from the values recommended by the Regulation amending the Regulation respecting the mandatory reporting of certain emissions of contaminants into the atmosphere (RDOCECA).
