Atlas of frequency distribution, auto-correlation and cross-correlation of daily temperature and precipitation at stations in the U.S., 1948-1991 (in metric units)

This atlas contains statistics on the variability of daily maximum and minimum temperature and precipitation for each month of the year at 118 first order continental U.S. stations over the 44 year period of 1948-1991. Frequency histograms are the primary means by which the variability is expressed, although summary statistics such as mean, standard deviation and skew are also provided. Such detailed summaries of daily surface climate behavior have not been produced in a routine manner before, and supplement existing more general data such as (1) number of days in a given month for which daily temperature falls below or exceeds -17.8°, 0° or 32.2°C, and (2) interannual variability (standard deviation) of the monthly mean temperature or total precipitation.
