The project aimed at studying the molecular basis of leaf rust resistance due to an Adult plant resistance gene (Lr48) in bread wheat. A selection line from Australian cultivar 'Condor' was found to carry adult plant resistance due to Lr48 gene, which is recessive in nature. The plants showed susceptibility untill boot stage to puccinia triticina race 77-5 while it displayed resistance symptoms as it enters the boot stage. The main objective was to identify transcripts from wheat host and fungal pathogen that were involved in rust infection.
