PROMIS Physical Function Upper Extremity v2.0 Extension

This is a dataset of 600 participants collected by the panel survey company Op4G in March 2016. Participants were drawn to represent two groups—a general physical functioning group and a group that had self-reported limitations due to problems with their hand, arm, or shoulder functioning. The intention was to evaluate the psychometric properties of the revised full Upper Extremity v2.0 item bank. Forty-nine candidate upper extremity items were administered, as well as the PROMIS Physical Functioning v2.0 short form 8b and the FLEX-SF (a legacy validation measure; Cook et al., 2003). Major findings of this research suggested three candidate items should not proceed in the final v2.0 revision, but the other items exhibited adequate psychometric properties for inclusion. Known groups validity was supported between those with and without self-reported limitations. The candidate item bank correlated well with the generic physical functioning short form as well as the legacy upper extremity short form.
