Woodlot Dataset 4: Lab 2

Lab 2 of BIO2050. Experiment occured at 3:00-4:10 PM on September 22, 2015 at York University Danby Woodlot with the assistance of group member Kathy. Group members: Kathy, Khaula, and Houra (completed datasets 2, 3 and 1). Ten random adult silver maple trees were selected in the Danby Woodlot. Using transect measuring tapes, my partner and I measured their diameter at breast height (in inches) and made an estimate of the extent of the trees canopy coverage (percentage) by forming a square frame with my fingers and viewed how much sky was visible in that selected area of the canopy. The distance of the nearest silver maple sapling from each adult tree was measured with the transect measuring tape (in feet) from the adult trunk to the saplings trunk, as well as the sapling's diameter at breast height (in inches).
