This series consists of case records for male patients admitted to the Broughton Hall Psychiatric Clinic, compiled under the Lunacy Act, 1898 (Act No.45, 1898) s.27-30. Broughton Hall offered psychiatric assistance to voluntary patients under this Act, as amended by the Lunacy Amendment Act, 1934 (Act No.39, 1934); and subsequently under the Mental Health Act, 1958 (Act No.45, 1958) and later legislation. Some case papers may have originated in Callan Park Mental Hospital, sent with patients referred to Broughton Hall.These are case papers for patients admitted and discharged from the 1920s to the 1950s with some extending to 1976.The case papers may include: a cover sheet with dates of admission(s) and medical summary; results of examinations of mental and physical condition; family and marital history; record of progress; correspondence with or regarding the patient; behaviour and treatment records; test results; and personal effects lists.For each patient, the file list includes: admission number; full name; age at time of last admission; all dates of admission and discharge recorded on the file; file start date and end date. The case papers for a patient may include the papers for more than one admission; papers for earlier admissions were attached to the latest admission papers. The records are arranged by admission register number.
