This volume selects relevant materials related to garden landscapes from Chinese ancient books and modern Chinese documents. These materials include texts that depict natural scenery and garden landscapes, record garden construction activities and the cultural life of residing in gardens—such as poetry, travel essays, and garden treatises, as well as works that describe scenery and document travels from literati gatherings and garden-visiting sightseeing events, plus inscriptions and poems for garden illustrations, epigraphs, diaries, correspondence, prefaces and postscripts, notes, and relevant texts and documents sourced from local chronicles. Subsequently, based on the content of these materials, thematic categories are established, the materials are compiled in a categorized manner, key points of the content are elaborated, and their documentary significance for the study of garden history and garden landscape research is highlighted.
