This study was aimed at assessing the endophytic bacterial diversity associated with the seed embryos in different cucurbits adopting cultivation versus cultivation-independent 16S rRNA V3-V4 region taxonomic profiling. The crops included watermelon, muskmelon, cucumber, pumpkin and bottle gourd. The findings indicated the embryo colonization by diverse bacteria in a cultivation recalcitrant form and their vertical transmissibility.
