The Lactobacillus fermentum ASBT-2 was isolated from domestic sewage, collected from Amritapuri, Kollam, Kerala, India by using a selective media, De Man, Rogosa and Sharpe agar (MRS). The isolate was further subcultured and maintained as an axenic culture in MRS media. The isolate was characterized to be Gram positive rods, with creamy white, circular and smooth colonies.
