<p>This robust radioanalytical method, developed for the detection and quantification of <sup>148</sup>Gd in environmental and bioassay samples, is not only efficient but also highly adaptable to different matrices. It addresses critical needs for radiological emergency preparedness at neutron spallation facilities such as the European Spallation Source (ESS). The method integrates multi-step ion exchange, extraction chromatography, and electrodeposition to produce high-purity alpha spectrometric sources suitable for direct measurement of this difficult-to-measure pure alpha emitter. Chemical recoveries ranged from 26% (air filters) to 60% (soil), with minimum detectable activities as low as 0.23 mBq g⁻¹ for soil and 0.28 mBq L⁻¹ for water (25 h acquisition time). The method's high selectivity, sensitivity, and adaptability to diverse matrices, including soil, water, and air filters, reassure its applicability to a wide range of environmental and bioassay samples. This validated procedure fills a key analytical gap for emergency response and could be adapted for other long-lived alpha emitters relevant to nuclear safety, underscoring its significant contribution to the field.</p>
