This data set stems from a survey. We crafted both close and open-ended responses. We used quantitative analysis (i.e., descriptive statistics) for the close-ended questions and a qualitative analysis for the open-ended responses.We used Saldana’s method of two-round coding to analyze the qualitative data (Saldaña, 2009). Saldaña (2009) recommends using a specific coding system he calls “values coding” (p. 89) where codes “reflect a participant’s values, attitudes, and beliefs, representing his or her perspectives or worldview” (p. 89). For our second round of coding, we tallied the number of recurring codes as a form of pattern coding (Saldaña, 2009, p. 152). We formed those reoccurring codes into larger themes.
