MovieShots is a dataset dedicated to facilitating shot type analysis in videos. It is a large-scale annotated shot dataset containing 46,000 shots from 7,858 films, covering a broad range of movie genres to ensure the inclusion of shots of all scales and motion types. Each shot has two attributes: shot scale and camera movement.
Shot scales are divided into five categories: 1) Long Shot (LS), which can sometimes be as far as a quarter of a mile away; 2) Full Shot (FS), which hardly includes the human body; 3) Medium Shot (MS), which contains human figures from the knees or waist upwards; 4) Close-Up (CS), which focuses on relatively small objects and captures human hands and faces; 5) Extreme Close-Up (ECS), which even displays smaller body parts such as eyes or mouths.
Camera movements are categorized into four types: 1) Static shot: the camera is fixed, while the shooting subject can be flexible; 2) Moving shot: the camera moves or rotates; 3) Push shot: the camera zooms in; 4) Pull shot: the camera zooms out. Although all four movement types are widely used in films, push and pull shots only account for a small proportion. The usage of different shots typically depends on the movie genre and the preferences of filmmakers.
