Comprehensive analysis of Enterococcus spp. from two European healthy infant cohorts shows stable genomic traits including antimicrobial resistance (AMR)

Enterococcus is a double-faced and opportunistic pathogen. It is one of the first colonizer of the newborn gut. We thought that region and/or cohort-specific factors influence the acquisition and dissemination of antibiotic resistance genes (ARGs). However, the analysis of our and public genomes did not show any significant geographic or temporal patterns, and we found them to be highly mobile across Europe and beyond. Enterococcus spp. of two European infant cohorts (MAMI (Spain) & LucKi (The Netherlands)) were isolated for analysis.
