The macaques (genus Macaca) are the most widely distributed nonhuman primates. The evolutionary history and genetic differences of macaque had been studied based on lots of DNA sequencing studies, even some genomic studies. However, the epigenetic difference between macaques is still poorly understood. Epigenetic modifications change associated affect development, physiology, behaviors and evolution of individuals as well as across different species. Hence, we investigated the methylome of Tibetan macaque (M. thibetana) and Chinese rhesus macaque (M. mulatta lasiota) through whole genome bisulfite sequencing.
