Spectro-BCDI of Pt(Pd) alloys during CO2 hydrogenation

Converting carbon dioxide CO2 to value-added chemicals via gas phase catalysis represents a key scientific and technological approach to mitigating CO2 emissions. Palladium (Pd) and platinum (Pt) are widely used in catalytic hydrogenation processes owing to their activity. Here, we propose to use spectroscopic Bragg Coherent X-ray Diffraction Imaging (spectro-BCDI), a state-of-the-art characterization tool, to correlate both the structural (lattice strain, defects, facets, and morphology) and chemical (composition and oxidation states) characteristics of Pd and PdPt alloy catalysts under operando conditions. The insights gained will guide the design of efficient and selective catalysts for CO2 hydrogenation.
