GHAZZÂLÎ’S (Abu Ḥâmid Muḥammad b. Muḥammad, d. A.H. 505) explanation of the ninety-nine names of God, entitled المقصد الأسنى or المقصد الاقصی. See Ḥ. Kh. vi. 89, iv. 27, ۷۴۷۵, and for a full account of its contents, Flügel, Hdss. Wien, iii. 326. Cf. Bibl. Sprenger. 857.

At first written in a small clear hand, but continued (from fol. 35v.) in an inelegant Nasta’liḳ. The colophon runs as follows:

تم کتاب المقصد الاقصی فی معانی اسما الله تعالی الحمد لله رب العالمین بید عبد الضعیف الراجی الی رحمة الله القوی محمد بن ابراهیم مقری فی شهر المبارک ذو الحج فی ببلج بور (sic)

Marginal notes.

A prayer, inscribed برای فتح باب, with directions in Persian, is added at the end.

The title-page is filled with various extracts, amongst them a fragment of a preface, which begins: الحمدلله الذی لا یتصور ان یشارکه غیره, and ends abruptly with the first few words after اما بعد. From these it would appear that we have here only a variation of the original exordium of the present treatise.
