The Diaprepes root weevil (DRW), Diaprepes abbreviatus is an agriculturally relevant pest species capable of feeding on nearly 270 plant species. DRW was first introduced in 1964 and is now spread throughout the southeast US and parts of California, Louisiana and Texas. There is no complete genome information related to DRW, which would allow us to investigate further the evolution of plant feeding and the invasiveness of DRW and weevils. Here we generated the genome assembly of DRW, which would serve as a community tool to further look into the evolution of plant feeding, invasiveness and polyphagy across weevils. Our genome would also serve as a tool to identify biologically relevant methods for controlling DRW.
