The giant freshwater prawn, Macrobrachium rosenbergii is a widely cultured crustacean. Recently, M. rosenberii nodavirus infestation has been seen as a potential threat towards the prawn farming. Lectins are pathogen recognition receptors capable of regulating the pathogenic load in the host and protecting the host from infections. We discuss the protocols of RNAi gene silencing in M. rosenbergii to understand the role of highly expressed lectins in pathogenicity mechanisms of host.
