Importance of Place of Residence, 2001

This dataset is derived from "Importance of Place of Residence, 2001". The survey maps out the living conditions in Norway in 2001. The objective of the survey is to study how people's decisions to move is related to their social and economic situation and their assessment of the place they live.

Central variables/themes are:
- Characterization of previous and present place of residence
- Number of times the respondent has moved or considered doing it, and causes for this
- Assessment of the place of living with regards to job and education oppurtunities, social life and culture, service and leisure.
- Ranking of different values in the respondents' life.

The syrvey was commissioned by the Nordic Council of Ministers. Similar surveys are also conducted in the other nordic countries. The purpose has been to study how attitudes towards and conditions of the place of residence and living situation possibly varies between the different nordic countries. Michael Nilsson at Statistics Sweden, has coordinated the sirveys in the different countries (data collection, time schedule, interpretations of questions etc).
