this research addresses the following objectives:
1. To examine the relationship between resilience and marriage satisfaction among parents of children with special needs.
2. To determine whether psychological flexibility mediates the relationship between resilience and marriage satisfaction.
3. To explore potential gender differences in the relationships among resilience, psychological flexibility, and marriage satisfaction.
Based on previous literature and theoretical frameworks, we propose the following hypotheses:
H1: Resilience will be positively associated with marriage satisfaction among PCDDs
H2: Psychological flexibility will mediate the relationship between resilience and marriage satisfaction, such that higher resilience will be associated with greater psychological flexibility, which in turn will be related to higher marriage satisfaction.
H3: The structural relationships among resilience, psychological flexibility, and marriage satisfaction will be similar across gender groups, though the levels of these variables may differ between mothers and fathers of children with developmental disabilities.
H4: When controlling for demographic variables such as age and duration of marriage, the mediating role of psychological flexibility in the relationship between resilience and marriage satisfaction will remain significant.
These hypotheses will be tested using Bayesian structural equation modeling (BSEM), which offers several advantages over traditional frequentist approaches, including more accurate parameter estimates with uncertainty quantification and greater robustness to violations of normality. The findings will have implications for developing interventions aimed at enhancing psychological flexibility and marriage satisfaction among PCDDs.
