Laboratory–acquired infections continue to occur despite advances in laboratory design, professional training, and adherence to laboratory standards. In the event of a laboratory-acquired illness, uncovering the source of infection is a prerequisite for identifying and correcting laboratory deficiencies and preventing future LAIs.
